Sandown & Lake Youth Football Club demonstrated that they are about much more than football after players, coaches and parents joined forces for a community litter pick across Sandown and Lake.
The volunteer team spent the morning collecting rubbish from Los Altos Park, Sandown Railway Station, The Fairway and surrounding roads, removing an impressive 16 black sacks of litter and helping to make the local area cleaner, safer and more welcoming for residents and visitors alike.
The initiative highlights the club’s commitment to supporting the community and encouraging young people to take pride in their local environment.
The club would like to extend its sincere thanks to Sandown Green Town Volunteers for providing equipment and refuse sacks to support the event, as well as to Lake Tidy Team for their continued commitment to keeping the area clean and helping inspire community action.
Special thanks are also extended to Sandown Town Council and Lake Parish Council for their encouragement and support of community-led initiatives that bring local people together and make a positive difference.
Steve Hobday, the clubs chairman said, “We are incredibly proud of our young players, coaches and parents who generously gave up their time to help improve our local area. Collecting 16 bags of rubbish shows what can be achieved when a community works together. Football is at the heart of what we do, but being a good neighbour and making a positive contribution to our community is just as important.”
The litter pick reflects the club’s ethos of teamwork, responsibility and community spirit, proving that together local people can make a real and lasting impact.
More than just football – making a difference together.
